SanDisk officially releases the long awaited 1GB microSD memory card (SDSDQ-1024)…Should Apple be nervous?
JR.com announced today that the new 1gb micro SD memory card is now in stock! I can’t tell you how long I’ve been waiting for this! Ever since I purchased my Motorola E815, I knew that one day I would be able to leave my iPod at home and finally have those flat pockets that everyone only dreams about now a-days.
Breaking the Bulk
With this enhanced capability for mobile phone users, the next time you see someone dancing down the streets, you won’t be able to automatically assume they have an iPod up their sleeve…with only a cell phone, users can now carry around hundreds of songs for hours of listening (and dancing) enjoyment. Another space saving feature included is the adapter which provides compatibility with devices using full size SD memory cards.
NOTE: The MicroSD card, often confused with the larger MiniSD card (also currently available in 1gb), is actually a re-branding of the Transflash size flash memory card. The new MicroSD works in a variety of devices (including the Garmin hand-held GPS); but to avoid disappointment, be sure to check your manual first…ENJOY!

did you ever try the 1gb transflash with yr e815?
Haven’t tried it per se, but it is the same as microSD. Just another name for it. I have a 1 gb microSD (transflash) and it works great with my E815.
I have about 100 mp3’s and a few short videos stored on it and there it’s still more than half empty.
So, if you have the transflash 1gb, I’m sure it’ll work just fine.
Curious if this works to store photos and videos from the phone in order to transfer them to a computer. Have you been able to get this to work? Also, you mentioned that you have videos on the card, did you take videos from the PC to play on the phone?
I haven’t yet attempted transferring videos (or photos) from my pc to my MicroSD card (phone), although I’m sure there must be a way to do this.
Transferring videos & photos created by my phone to my pc has been successfully tested though. Here are a few other points on that topic:
- Video recording capability has been increased to a max. of 3 minutes on the card, even though it could potentially fit more
- Once the video has been transferred via the card to my pc, it shows up as a .3g2 file type…this uses quicktime to playback on my pc’s current setup
- To store these items on your memory card rather than directly to your phone, you simply hit the middle soft-key and “Switch Storage Device” when using your phone’s camera or video recorder
Just got a 1GB microSD and popped it into my phone. First thing I did was go to set-up so that I could format the card. Once I clicked yes to start the formatting, the phone went into a cycle where the HelloMoto screen pops up for 4-5 seconds, then the screen goes blank for a second, and then the process repeats itself. My phone has been doing this for an hour now, and any buttons I push have no effect on the phone.
Did you initially format your microSD card, and if so, how long did it take?
Thanks,
Matt
I had a similar situation at first, no worries though. Even though the memory card worked right out of the package in my case, I followed the instructions on the forums and reformatted the card in the phone like you did. My phone also reacted in a similar manner. I don’t recall exactly what happened next, but it ended up working just fine.
Regarding the former comment from Xuli; here is a site with some conversion freeware and it will also teach you about converting video to & from .3gpp2: http://www.3gp.com/
I hope this has helped and apologies for the delay in responding…good luck!
